Year 4 Children's Work

 

 Year 4 Visit to Clapham Village in the Yorkshire Dales

Year 4 went on their annual field trip to Clapham Village as part of their "Contrasting Locations" topic. They were met by Chris from the Inglebrough Outdoor Education Centre who told them about Clapham, past and present, and then sent them on a "trail of discovery" around the village. Our Fragile Environment

 

Year 4 have been studying a lot about the environment and what they can do to improve it.

This has result in them being involved in a number of visits and projects:

Our Local Environment

Year 4 got involved in some conservation work around The Wyther Park estate which is a housing estate next to our school. The children thought of ideas as to how the local environment could be improved. They also went round the estate planting bulbs.

Composting!

Another environmental issue that Year 4 looked at was that of re-cycling. They helped with an Assembly and got actively involved around the school by encouraging people to recycle natural waste. Pupils have set up 3 compost bins and located a number of smaller collection bins around the school and playground. Children and adults are now encouraged to put their, apple cores, banana skins, orange peel and tea bags etc. into the smaller bins which are then collected and emptied into the big bins. It is hoped that when the compost is ready it can be used in the school garden that we are developing thanks to a lot of hard work from volunteers working for the "Zurich Insurance Company".
