KS2 Wow Event - World War 2

Each teacher had a different 'zone' linked to World War Two. The Music Hall - Mrs Drummond led singing of old war time songs to lift the spirits of the evacuees. Rationing - Mrs Cope helped the evacuees learn how to make corn beef hash using only food available during war time. Code Breakers - Mrs Smith led a session that explored the amazing work done at Bletchley Park to crack the Enigma Code The School Room - Mr Burns led a session where all pupils were exposed to what school was like during the war...it wasn't as nice as it is today! Preparing for War - Mrs Buono helped our evacuees to prepare their windows for war...you never know what the bombs might hit!

Our PE days have changed and are now Monday and Thursday,  and children need to bring the appropriate kit.

For indoor PE this is a pair of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt.  For outdoor PE they will need a pair of tracksuit / jogging trousers, a plain t-shirt and a plain sweatshirt / hoodie.  As the weather improves, they will wear shorts and t-shirt outside.
Home Learning:
Reading at home has a huge impact on your child's progress and we ask that your child reads to an adult at least 3 times a week, every night is even better! Please sign your child's reading record and write any appropriate comments. This could be how well they read or parts they found hard.

Children will bring home spellings on a Friday. These will be linked to what they have been learning in their spelling sessions. It is important that they try to read and spell the words on the list.
Mr Burns and Mrs Smith will communicate with your children about English, Maths and Topic Homework
Our News
This year in Y5 we are learning about World War 11. The children will be visiting Eden Camp which is a super day where they will experience just what life was like first hand, in huts which clearly show the sights and sounds of the war.  In school they will have the chance to be evacuees and will learn about life in the schoolroom, how rationing effected people by looking at war time recipes, emergency first aid and code cracking. The children are enjoying reading ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ in English and have already started to write enthusiastically about the characters and how life was different for evacuees. In Maths we are learning about the four operations in context through problem solving activities. In Science we have been learning about Electricity and Materials.
