Year 3

We have had a busy start to year 3. The children have settled in well and are getting used to the new Key Stage 2 routines. We have also had some great Ukelele lessons!

Our topic for this half term is learning about Our Local Area - Bramley. We will be learning about how the land use has changed in Bramley over time. We will be looking at a range of maps to plot routes, identify places of interest and show significant changes in land use. For this topic, we will be going on a walk of our local area to observe how some of the land use is still as it once was when it was first built and how some has changed.

In English we will be writing and innovating stories to make them our own! We will also be linking our writing to our topic and writing a report on Bramley and our school.

In Mathematics we are focussing on written column addition and subtraction, including exchanging. We are working hard to ensure we write it clearly, in the correct columns and identify when we need to exchange to calculate it.
Reading at home has a huge impact on your child's progress and we ask that your child reads to an adult at least 3 times a week, every night is even better! Please sign your child's reading record and write any appropriate comments. This could be how well they read or parts they found hard.

Children will bring home spellings on a Friday. These will be linked to what they have been learning in their spelling sessions. It is important that they try to read and spell the words on the list.

Maths - Mathletics
Our maths scheme enables your child to access current maths topics and other related games in the comfort of your own home. At school we will show your child how to navigate their way around the website but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Our PE days are on Tuesday and Wednesday and children need to bring the appropriate kit.

For indoor PE this is a pair of black shorts and a plain white t-shirt.  For outdoor PE they will need a pair of tracksuit / jogging trousers, a plain t-shirt and a plain sweatshirt / hoodie.  As the weather improves, they will wear shorts and t-shirt outside.
